Your Guide To Perfect Pool Party Makeup

Summer is very nearly here and that means that the gals at HQhair have been day dreamin’ over our travel plans: discovering hidden beaches, attending the coolest festivals and of course, hitting every pool party possible! Although pool parties are super fun, you can often leave looking a little bedraggled with tears of mascara running down your cheeks (yep, we’ve been there before and it is not a good look!), but not to worry, because pool parties do not have to be a complete beauty disaster. Read on and discover how you can slay in and out of the water with HQhair’s guide to the perfect pool party makeup right here on the #HQHUB!

Pool Party Makeup Rule #1

Prep and prime.
As pool parties usually take place outside, you will be exposed to the sun for a long period of time. This means that undoubtedly your face will sweat, potentially causing your foundation to smudge. To prevent this from happening, we advise that you use a mattifying primer – the Laura Geller Spackle Treatment Mattifying Makeup Primer would be ideal. This lightweight, moisturising formula will eliminate shine and control oil production, ensuring that you’re ready for some serious poolside posing!

Pool Party Makeup Rule #2

Neutral and nude.
Although the gals at HQhair absolutely love a bold and bright eye, a pool party is perhaps not the place to trial one out. If you want to look glamorous, but still poolside perfect, then instead opt for a neutral and nude eye makeup. Combine the shades ‘Fearless’ and ‘Fabulous’ from theBalm’s Nude Dude Eye Shadow Palette for a show-stopping look! The longevity of these powders will ensure that your eye makeup stays in place all day long.

Pool Party Makeup Rule #3

Long lashes.
When it comes to mascara, you’re best to choose either a long-lasting or waterproof formula. If you’re going to dodge the water, then try the Laura Geller GlamLASH Mascara for lashes that last. Or, if you want to take a dip in the pool, then use the Benefit Badgal Waterproof Mascara for lashes that will stay long, curled and voluminous in and out of the pool!

Pool Party Makeup Rule #4

Protect your pout.
If you’re going to be outside for a long amount of time, then you’ll already know that wearing sun cream is always a good option. However, most people usually forget to apply a SPF to their lips. This can result in a sun burnt pout, something that is not only extremely painful but dangerous too. To prevent this from happening, use a lip balm that is specifically design to protect your lips from harmful UV rays. The Ultrasun Ultralip SPF 30 is one of our favourites.

Pool Party Makeup Rule #5

Set and slay.
The final step to ensuring that your makeup is pool party perfect is setting it with a spray. The First Aid Beauty Vital Greens Face Mist is ideal for setting your makeup straight after application, but also for cooling yourself down throughout the day. Enriched with a cocktail of green super foods, including Kale and Spinach, this spritz will protect your skin from external elements and leave your skin feeling soothed and refreshed.
