What Illamasqua Say: “Enhance your pout with the Illamasqua Antimatter Lipstick; a semi-matte lipstick that adds long-wearing, non-drying colour to your lips.”
Why We Picked It: We loved seeing @theglitterygoose rock it on set in her skeleton makeup tutorial, so we defs wanted to give it a test ourselves. A special release for their 10/10 birthday collection, we’re excited to see if we’ll love the black bullet lipstick as much as we love their other shades.
What Rimmel Say: “Achieve bold colour in one simple stroke with the Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lipstick; a high-intensity lip colour that sweeps over lips and offers a velvety matte finish.”
Why We Picked It: After seeing the shades on Rita Ora, we were obsessed. It’s time to see whether this liquid lipstick packs a punch – even if it is the cheapest lipstick we’re trialing today.
What NYX Professional Makeup Say: “Create a statement lip with NYX Professional Makeup Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick, a matte liquid lipstick that delivers highly pigmented colour with long-wearing results.”
Why We Picked It: NYX Professional Makeup Liquid Suede Lipstick is a longtime makeup staple for us, but we’ve never tried the black option before. We love its matte finish in the nude and red shades, bit will it work IRL for the darker shade?
What Lord & Berry Say: “Add kissable colour to your pout with the Lord & Berry 20100 Matte Lipstick Crayon; a long-wearing, ultra-hydrating formula that glides on effortlessly to deliver full coverage.”
Why We Picked It: We’ve had a bullet lipstick and two liquid lipsticks, so why not add a crayon into the mix? Easily the best option for black lipstick baes on the go, we wanna know whether having convenience will impact on performance.

Illamasqua Lipstick Review
Application:
We used a brand new Illamasqua lipstick, so once the first layer was off it was super easy to apply, like any other bullet lipstick. We didn’t use a lip liner for any of these lipsticks to keep it fair, and this one didn’t bleed in the slightest, making it a dream to apply once it got going.

Colour Payoff:
It applied easily thanks to its cream texture, and we didn’t need to spend too long to make sure the pigment was super opaque and even.

Longevity:
A cream or sheen consistency, this isn’t the sort of lipstick you’d expect to be indestructible. All things considered, it did pretty well, but there was definitely a lil bit of wear.

Ease of Removal:
It just took a lil micellar water on a cotton pad to make sure this slicked right off. Bonus points that thanks to its creamy consistency it’d kept our lips super moisturised and hadn’t damaged our skin in any way at all

Rimmel Lipstick Review
Application:
Katy found this Rimmel lipstick a lil tricky to apply. The doefoot applicator was easy to use, however the consistency of the black liquid lipstick was a bit gloopier than she was used to, so actual application was a bit messy. Warning: have cotton buds to hand!

Colour Payoff:
Even if the consistency took a bit of getting used to, the thickness translated into super pigmentation which applied evenly in one coat. It dried quickly to a matte finish without any smudging.

Longevity:
It’s safe to say the screme egg didn’t have a chance, this was the best black lipstick for longevity and it barely made a dent on the surface at all.

Ease of Removal:
This was definitely one for a lip exfoliator. A cleanser barely made an impact and we’re pretty sure Katy still had some left on when she went home!

NYX Professional Makeup Lipstick Review
Application:
We’re sure you’re all up-to-date with our edit of the best NYX Professional Makeup products, so we were excited to see how this fared. We’ve used Liquid Suede loads of times, and the black version applied just as well as the other colours. Easy to control, and not messy at all.

Although we ended up with a high pigment final look, it took us a few layers to make sure that it had applied evenly.

Longevity:
As far as black matte liquid lipsticks go, this one fared really well. There was no wear to the middle of the lips, and was still going strong.

It took a little bit of persuasion, but after a bit of a scrub with a cotton pad soaked in micellar water our lips were left feelin’ peachy clean.

Lord & Berry Lipstick Review
Application:
It’d been a while since Amy had last used a crayon lipstick, but it was quick to remember how easy it is to apply. It can be a bit tricky to get a sharp line to the edges of your lips, but otherwise it was really easy.

Much like the Illamasqua lipstick, it took a while to build up the pigment but we love how it dried matte to create a statement lip look.

Longevity:
As it applied like a cream lipstick from the bullet we weren’t expecting much from this black lipstick but it surpassed all our expectations. Yes, it did wear a little bit, but nowhere near as much as some of the others in our trial.

This was a dream to take off. All we needed was a little bit of cleanser and it came straight off.
