How to get rid of dry skin for good

Tightness, dryness, flaking, chapping and itchiness – we’ve all been there and, like you, have wondered whether having the soft skin we’re oh-so-used-to in the summer months is even a possibility? The answer is yes. Here are our winter skincare tips and must-have products to get rid of that dry skin for good.

Hydration

Perhaps the most important step in keeping dry skin at bay, hydration is key to both your general health and your skin health. When you don’t drink enough water, your skin cells become dehydrated, causing your complexion to appear dull, whilst skin imperfections become more visible. By drinking around 2 litres of water per day, you’ll be caring for your skin from the inside out, leaving it with a fresh and healthy glow.

Face Wash

Keeping skin balanced is essential for preventing dryness. By using a gentle, effective cleanser such as the benefit Foamingly Clean Facial Wash both morning and night, it removes any makeup, pollution and other build-up on the skin. Foaming into a gentle lather, it washes away anything sitting in the pores, allowing it to breathe and regenerate, whilst helping it to absorb any moisturising products you apply afterwards.

Exfoliating

As your skin is constantly regenerating, thousands of skin cells die each second. The majority of these shed and come away with ease, yet some of them build up and cause a flaky appearance. Using an exfoliator such as Alpha-H Liquid Gold will remove those dead skin cells, leaving behind a soft, new layer of skin. By revealing a fresh complexion, it also helps to get the best results out of products that you apply afterwards.

Cleansing

We’re all guilty of skipping a thorough facial cleanse every now and again. Sometimes, finding the time to do a full cleanse just isn’t feasible, but that doesn’t mean you should just skip it completely. A quick sweep across the face with a cotton pad and the Garnier Skin Micellar Cleansing Water will remove makeup and impurities without over-drying the skin.

Toning

The right toner used on dry skin will dramatically reduce redness, flaking and any uncomfortable sensations. Water-based formulas such as the Pixi Glow Tonic are best as they don’t tend to dehydrate the skin. Alcohol-free and containing soothing aloe vera and ginseng, it nourishes and treats the skin at once for firmer, smoother and brighter skin.

Serum

In a bid to avoid dry skin, it’s important to replenish any lost nutrients and moisture. A serum such as the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Hydrating Serum is a great choice as it re-balances the skin for a plumper, smother complexion. Formulated with hyaluronic acid, it absorbs deep into the skin for long-lasting hydration.

Moisturising

A daily moisturiser is one of the easiest, yet most important steps in how to get rid of dry skin. Gently massaging a moisturiser such as the REN Vita Mineral Daily Supplement Moisturising Cream into the skin will leave it energised and protected for a more radiant complexion.

SPF Protection

Despite popular belief, you need to use SPF every single day, even in winter. This is because the sun’s UV rays can still penetrate the skin through rain and cloud when the sun isn’t shining. A quick spritz of Paula’s Choice Sunscreen Spray SPF43 will prevent damage to the skin as well as stopping moisture from escaping to maintain hydration.

Lip Balm

The skin on your lips is thinner and more sensitive than the rest on your face.  A lip balm such as benefit Benebalm Lip Hydrator will condition lips, leaving them soft and smooth, This one in particular contains mango butter and is red rose tinted to enhance your lip’s natural shade.

Night Oil

During your sleep, skin repairs and regenerates. The Elemis Peptide4 Night Recovery Cream-Oil speeds up the process for even healthier skin with optimum hydration. Combining the hydration of cream with the protective benefits of oil, it has the best of both for amazing results.

Night Mask

Similar to a night oil, a night mask helps your skin whilst it’s at its most receptive. The Erno Laszlo Hydratherapy Memory Sleep Mask is packed with 24-hour smart hydrators, helping to restore and maintain maximum moisture levels throughout the day. Restoring elasticity, it creates a more youthful complexion to keep your skin looking supple and smooth.

Supplements

Great skin starts from the inside, out. Taking supplements can give you that extra boost for a healthier complexion and skin which can hold moisture for longer. The Imedeen Derma One Supplements contain vitamin C, zinc and a marine complex for increased collagen production and stronger, more elasticated skin.
