Do You Use Protection? The Lazy Girls’ Guide To SPF

When the sun is shining, our moods are instantly lifted. Somehow, we have a certain spring in our step and everything seems right with the world. Lying on the beach and soaking up the rays could snap anyone out of a sombre mood, and if there’s no beach in sight, you’ll be sure to find us in our local bar’s beer garden sipping on some tropical cocktails without a care in the world. But wait… are you using protection?

What Are We Using Protection For?

Understanding what the sun does to our skin can sound pretty complicated, but it’s actually as easy as A, B, C. The sun emits 3 types of ultraviolet rays…

  • UVC – You can basically ignore these guys. UVC rays can’t even pass the the ozone layer, so they ain’t a problem to us right now.
  • UVB – These rays aren’t the worst. They don’t penetrate into your skin, but they do affect the surface of your skin. They’re the ones that either burn or bronze you.
  • UVA – These rays are the baddies. UVA rays penetrate deeper into your skin than the others, and can cause mutations within your skin cells which can lead to ageing and in some cases, skin caners.

So, UVB = Bronze or Burn, and UVA = Ageing… easy! SPF helps to block these rays and stop them penetrating and affecting our skin.

I’m Staying In The UK This Summer. I Don’t Need Protection, Do I?

Actually, yes you do. The sun’s rays can be harmful even on overcast days. Really, we should be using SPF whether we’re on a beach somewhere in the Mediterranean or in our back gardens in the UK. We aren’t just talking about the summer months either! Although the suns rays are strongest during the summer months, they are still super powerful all year round.

How Can I Protect Myself Quickly & Easily Every Day?

We know, the thought of slathering on thick and creamy sunscreen every day is pretty daunting and seems rather unnecessary during the cooler months of the year, which is why we’ve created The Lazy Girls’ Guide To SPF to make protection so much easier!

    Use an SPF Primer

Using a primer that contains SPF is one of the easiest ways to add sun protection into your daily routine. Whether you apply make-up over the top, or go for a natural glowy look, you can be sure that your face is well protected from those pesky rays.

Murad’s Invisiblur Perfecting Shield is a 5-in-1 formula containing invisible SPF technology. This anti-ageing treatment also blurs, primes, moisturises and protects the skin with an invisible sunscreen to reveal a smooth, blurred, flawless complexion in just one step.

I’ve always loved anything artistic and creative, and experimenting with makeup is no exception! Bold and bright lip colours are my vice. When I’m not trying out new make-up products, you can usually find me scrolling through Instagram, laughing at the latest snapchat filter, or catching up with friends over a few cocktails. Long Island Iced Tea is my staple.
