Bad Beauty Habits The Experts Wish You’d Quit

New Year, new you. Sound familiar? There’s something about the flip of a calendar page that pushes people to crave reinvention. Overnight we expect to be stronger, smarter, more organised and on top of it all, more beautiful. Don’t get me wrong, I love a makeover as much as the next person but is it really such a crime to get through 2017 with the same haircut as last year? In other words, don’t pressurise yourself to make extreme overhauls just because. If you do have a nagging need to see some improvement however, any beauty expert will tell you that it’s the little things that make the biggest differences. Here, we weight in on the small changes that can produce big results.

Problem: Brushing Wet Hair

Solution: Always comb hair when it’s wet using a Tangle Teezer or comb. Brushing wet hair with a hard brush will result in fractured strands and breakages. Next, apply a light weight product such as GHD Heat Protect Spray that will seal in moisture prior to styling.

Problem: Not Loving Your Nails

Solution: Healthy, natural looking nails don’t require constant manicures. Wearing a conditioning base coat such as Nailtiques Nail Protein Formula 2 will help to prevent moisture loss and maintain healthy nail condition.

Problem: Using Old Towels On Your Locks

Solution: A simple resolution is to gently squeeze and pat your hair dry with a micro-fibre towel (we love Aquis Lisse Luxe Hair Towel) instead of aggressively rubbing it with a regular cotton or bath towel. This won’t pull or stretch the strands which can ultimately lead to breakage; it also helps to preserve your curl pattern.

Problem: Over-Styling Your Hair

Solution: When styling the hair with heat, we are changing the hair’s hydrogen bond, which really never needs more than 180 degrees celcius of heat. When going over 200, you are exposing hair to unnecessary damage including breakages and colour fading. For different hair types use different power, not different temperatures.

Problem: Popping Spots

Solution: We all know how tempting it can be, however popping spots is a massive no-no in the eyes of our beauty experts. We reccomend using a blemish control treatment such as Murad’s Rapid Relief Spot Treatment which works to penetrate pores to visibly reduce the size and redness of spots withing as little as four hours.

Problem: Tweezing

Solution: The technique of tweezing damages the hair follicle which not only results in the hair growing back thicker, but also causes it to twist as it grows causing more spots on the surface of the face. Try other forms of hair removal such as Philips Lumea Prestige IPL Hair Removal Device which works to break the cycle of hair regrowth, utilising gentle pulses of light to target the root of the follicle.
